TriStar Stops Traffic

TriStar Stops Traffic

TriStar's engineering team worked with a light manufacturer on a special project with the Corp of Engineers.

To prevent watercraft from entering restricted space, the Corp of Engineers designed a cable barrier system with signal lights to warn traffic to stop. The light boxes are exposed to a harsh environment including salt air, sea spray and constant UV exposure.

TriStar Plastics' Surface Modification Division offered a special UV and corrosion resistant plastic which was molded to shape, plasma treated and then coated with a special fluorescent orange paint. The completed turnkey unit included the internal electronics and fasteners to attach to the cable system.

Surface modification, utilizing plasma technology, thoroughly cleans and prepares the surface for improved adhesion. Prior to using TriStar's plasma technology, the customer would experience cracking and flaking of the paint. The paint adhesion is now dramatically improved, will withstand years of service and hold its visual integrity.
